Mercedes-Benz S 600 Guard`s Systems

The Mercedes-Benz Guard vehicles aren't only safe, they are full of the latest technology innovations too. Usually, new technologies which are used on high-class cars, which the S 600 Guard is, are used in ordinary production cars 5 or more years later. This is caused by prices and patent protection. So if anyone wants to understand the latest technology news, then the S 600 Guard systems are perfect for analysis. This article focuses on the most recent systems delivered with Mercedes-Benz's flagship; the S 600 Guard.

Brake Assist PLUS

This system, invented by Mercedes-Benz engineers in 1992, helps a driver to brake with the most appropriate force ignoring mistakes made during the braking process. The system works thanks to radars installed on the car's front. Moreover, the Brake Assist PLUS system automatically keeps the desired distance between the car and the car in front. If necessary, the car will be stopped by this system. In addition, the system automatically accelerates the car up to the speed programmed by the driver if there is no obstacle in front anymore.

ESP

ESP was redesigned in order to fully cooperate with the Guard's extra weight. Basically, this system helps a driver to keep the car under control whenever the car gets into a skid. In comparison to ABS, ESP's advantage is that it analyses information gathered from ABS, the steering-wheel and from the gyroscope which is usually installed in the centre of the car. ESP then brakes rear wheels, or releases the front wheels, so that the car is stable even when accelerating, decelerating, or when handling corners.

PRE-SAFEŽ

The preventive emergency system called PRE-SAFEŽ cooperates with the Brake Assist PLUS in order to warn the driver if the distance between him and a car in front gets critical. This is possible thanks to radars installed on the front of the car. The PRE-SAFE system also calculates the most effective braking, so even if the driver jams on the brakes, the car automatically uses as much brake power as required for safe deceleration. If a crash is inevitable, the PRE-SAFEŽ system tightens the seat belts, automatically closes windows, and the seats' positions are adjusted in order to minimize the effect of the crash.

Of course, the above systems aren't the only advantages and differences between the new S class. What makes Guard outstanding is it's safety systems too. Some of the systems listed below were mentioned in previously posted articles.

In order to counteract potentially dangerous gaseous substances, the Mercedes-Benz S 600 Guard offers an optional emergency fresh-air system. Sensors are designed to detect smoke or tear gas, so that the system automatically blocks the outside air from entering the car. Moreover, an on-board compressed-air cylinder supplies such an amount of air which creates a slight overpressure inside of the car. This idea is very simple, but works perfectly; It simply doesn't allow any air to enter the car, since elements from lower-pressure locations can't enter the higher-pressure location due to basic physical principles. This system can be activated manually.

- A fire-extinguishing system with twelve nozzles and two cylinders of extinguishing agent, triggered either by heat sensors or manually.

- A pneumatic emergency control system for the power windows, which operates independently of the on-board electronics.

- An emergency boot opening facility which allows occupants to free themselves from the boot of the car by means of a switch located on the inside of the boot lid.

- A special-protection fuel tank that reseals itself if perforated by projectiles.

- An optional Panic Alarm System which can be activated from anywhere in the vehicle. It locks the doors to create a protected zone and alerts the outside world by means of visual and audible alarm signals. It also allows communication with the outside world via an intercom.

- A rear camera which monitors the area behind the vehicle.

- A heated front windscreen and heated front windows, and this despite the use of special glass.

- An infinitely adjustable doorlock system for all four doors.

- Rear doors that are pulled shut automatically over the last few millimetres.

- Electric roller blinds in the rear replace the previously fitted curtains so as to be less conspicuous when driving in traffic.
